What to expect from therapy?
During the initial appointment you will be asked about what your difficulties are and what you would like to be able to work towards in therapy. We do not need to discuss past experiences in any great detail during the first appointment; it is more important to understand what your current difficulties are now. It often takes a couple of sessions to complete the assessment.
Following this, we will discuss with you what treatments might be helpful and you can ask any questions or discuss any concerns you might have. If you feel psychological therapy is a good fit we can then discuss what this will look like and how many sessions this might take.
What are the fees for psychological therapy and how do I pay?
You can pay upfront before the session via bank transfer or if that is not possible, we can discuss weekly or monthly invoicing for the forthcoming sessions. If you have insurance, please let us know.
Initial telephone consultation (up to 15 minutes)- free
A brief initial phone call will let us talk about what it is you are hoping for.
Individual sessions (50 minutes)- £130
With an assessment appointment, I will work with you to understand your current difficulties and make a plan for therapy. Following this, you will then have weekly or fortnightly appointments where we work towards the agreed goal or outcome. Sometimes this can be a pre-agreed number of sessions, whilst others might prefer a more open-ended approach.
What happens if I need to cancel or miss an appointment?
If you find that you can’t make an appointment you can let us know via email. 48 hours-notice is required for cancellations in order to not be charged. Where possible, you will be offered an alternative appointment slot within the same week. If you miss a session with less than 48 hours-notice the full fee for the appointment will be required.
Is therapy in person or online?
Currently, individual sessions are offered face to face in Edinburgh and online to those in Scotland and across the UK. Online sessions have been found to be an effective way to provide psychological treatment and is comparable to face to face.
